ATLANTA- House Speaker David Ralston (R-Blue Ridge) recently announced the appointment of State Representative Al Williams (D-Midway) as a member of the Joint Study Committee on Property Tax Digest Impact on Education Funding.
“I appreciate Speaker Ralston and leadership for appointing me to this significant committee,” said Rep. Williams. “I look forward to seeing what we can do that would be in the best interest for all of Georgia.”
The Joint Study Committee on Property Tax Digest Impact on Education Funding, created by Senate Resolution 875, is charged with studying the reporting of local tax revenues that impact the funding received by local school systems, specifically equalization and five mill share. Issues to be addressed include tax digest reporting, economic development related revenues paid “in lieu” of taxes and any other arrangements that impact a local tax digest, including abatements.
The 10-member study committee will work in the interim leading up to the 2015 session of the Georgia General Assembly. Meetings will be called and scheduled by co-chairs of the committee, Representative David Knight (R-Griffin) and Senator Jack Hill (R-Reidville).
