ATLANTA— On Thursday, February 25, 2010, State Representative Bob Bryant (D–Garden City) was the guest speaker at Fort Stewart, Georgia for a Black History Month observance program. Speaking to the 3rd Infantry Division, Representative Bryant remembered famous African-American military heroes and told the crowd of over 200 soldiers and civilians of his personal experience in the United States Army.
“I was honored to speak to the fine men and women at Fort Stewart,” said Representative Bryant. “Black History Month allows us to remember important aspects of American history that are often overlooked. African-Americans have contributed to this great country since its founding and continue to help today. The emergence of numerous African-American military and political leaders proves that we have come a long way since Dr. King’s famous speech.”
Other guests at the event included Brigadier General Jeffrey E. Phillips, Deputy Commanding General of the 3rd Infantry Division and Senior Commander of Fort Stewart and Hunter Army Airfield; Mayor James Thomas, Jr. of Hinesville; Brian Johnson, City Manager of Garden City; and Representative Mickey Stephens (D- Savannah).
