ATLANTA –State Representative Billy Mitchell (D-Stone Mountain) today introduced a resolution to the Georgia House of Representatives recognizing Thurbert Baker, the Attorney General for the state of Georgia, for his independence and courage.
“I applaud the Attorney General for his independence,” said Representative Mitchell. “Thurbert Baker has consistently stood up for his beliefs. He deserves great recognition.”
The resolution recognizes Thurbert Baker as the first African American to serve as Georgia’s Attorney General. The legislation further notes Thurbert Baker’s accomplishments in spearheading legislation like the HOPE scholarship program and the “Two Strikes and You’re Out” law that sends repeat violent offenders to prison. Thurbert Baker is also recognized for creating the Open Government Mediation Program, which has helped numerous Georgians resolve their requests for open access to government meetings and records without having to go to court.
