State Representative Stephens Releases Statement to Encourage Constituents to Participate in the Georgia TeenWork Program

ATLANTA –State Representative Mickey Stephens (D- Savannah) released the following statement today encouraging teens and businesses to consider participation in the Georgia Department of Human Service’s (DHS) TeenWork program:

“As a state Representative, I felt compelled to make my constituents aware of this amazing opportunity.  TeenWork will help our youth gain the experience and skills needed to become productive, qualified workers.  In addition, this program will help fuel the Georgia economy by providing businesses an incentive to hire teen employees. Whether you are a teen, parent, or business owner, this program has something to offer.”

Teenwork is a federally funded program that helps teens earn summer employment opportunities, while providing businesses with a 100 percent subsidy for temporarily employing qualified youth.   Jobs are available from June 1 to July 31 for youth ages 14-18.  The jobs pay $8.50 an hour for up to 35 hours of work.  Job opportunities will be available in a variety of businesses, industries, and government organizations.  Employers who participate in the program will be paid from funds in the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act and will not have to seek reimbursement.  For more information on TeenWork, please visit www.georgiateenwork.org or call (888) 884-4712.
