Statement from House Speaker David Ralston After Receiving the 2011-2012 House Republican Caucus Nomination for Speaker

ATLANTA— House Speaker David Ralston (R-Blue Ridge) today released the following statement after receiving the 2011-2012 House Republican Caucus nomination for Speaker of the Georgia House of Representatives:

“I am both honored and humbled to receive such overwhelming support from the House Republican Caucus to continue serving as Speaker of the House. I am fortunate to serve alongside so many quality men and women who selflessly give of their time and efforts to make Georgia a better state.  Over the next few weeks, we will continue preparing to take on the tough issues that await us when the General Assembly convenes in January.  I know that the members elected today are ready to meet the challenges we face as a state and I look forward to their leadership.”

The Georgia House Republican Caucus also nominated Rep. Jan Jones (R-Alpharetta) to continue serving as Speaker Pro Tempore. Both the nominations of Rep. David Ralston and Rep. Jan Jones for their respective positions will be voted on by the entire Georgia House of Representatives when the General Assembly convenes on Monday, January 10, 2011.  The House Republican Caucus is the majority caucus made up of 109 members out of the 180 member Georgia House of Representatives.

* Rep. Larry O’Neal (R-Bonaire) was elected House Majority Leader replacing outgoing Rep. Jerry Keen (R-St. Simons)

* Rep. Edward Lindsey (R-Atlanta) was re-elected Majority Whip

* Rep. Donna Sheldon (R-Dacula) was re-elected Caucus Chair

*Rep. Matt Ramsey (R-Peachtree City) was elected Caucus Vice-Chair replacing outgoing Rep. Jeff May (R-Monroe)

*Rep.  Allen Peake (R-Macon) was re-elected Caucus Treasurer/Secretary
