Governor Kemp Signs House Bill 1105, the Georgia Criminal Alien Track and Report Act of 2024, into Law

ATLANTA – Today, Speaker of the House Jon Burns (R-Newington), State Representative Jesse Petrea (R-Savannah), and other legislators joined Governor Kemp in Forsyth, Ga., where House Bill 1105, sponsored by Rep. Petrea, was signed into law. This legislation mandates that Georgia law enforcement officials collaborate with federal immigration authorities to exchange and retain information regarding individuals’ immigration status, as required for public safety reasons.

ATLANTA – Today, Speaker of the House Jon Burns (R-Newington) issued the following statement in response to the passage of House Bill 1105, the Georgia Criminal Alien Track and Report Act of 2024:

Rep. Jesse Petrea Introduces Legislation on Georgia Sheriffs Violating Georgia Sanctuary Laws

ATLANTA – State Representative Jesse Petrea (R-Savannah) recently introduced legislation to provide a criminal penalty for sheriffs who refuse to follow Georgia state law on sanctuary policies. House Bill 1105, the “Georgia Criminal Alien Track and Report Act of 2024,” would make it a misdemeanor of a high and aggravated nature for sheriffs to disregard Georgia laws against “sanctuary” policies.
