Speaker Jon Burns Appoints Janelle King to State Elections Board

ATLANTA – Today, Speaker of the House Jon Burns (R-Newington) announced the appointment of Janelle King to the State Elections Board effective immediately. King will replace Edward Lindsey who resigned today after serving in the position since 2022. The Georgia State Elections Board is responsible for overseeing the rules and regulations of the elections process in Georgia, investigating the administration and compliance of elections, developing reports and making recommendations to the General Assembly.

Governor Kemp Signs House Bill 1105, the Georgia Criminal Alien Track and Report Act of 2024, into Law

ATLANTA – Today, Speaker of the House Jon Burns (R-Newington), State Representative Jesse Petrea (R-Savannah), and other legislators joined Governor Kemp in Forsyth, Ga., where House Bill 1105, sponsored by Rep. Petrea, was signed into law. This legislation mandates that Georgia law enforcement officials collaborate with federal immigration authorities to exchange and retain information regarding individuals’ immigration status, as required for public safety reasons.

Speaker Jon Burns Announces Kayla Roberson as Communications Director

ATLANTA – Today, Georgia House Speaker Jon Burns (R-Newington) announced the hire of Kayla Roberson as the Communications Director within his office. As communications director, she will oversee all external communication, media relations and strategic messaging for Speaker Burns. Stephen Lawson, who served as Speaker Burns’ senior communications advisor, will transition back into the private sector.

Governor Kemp Signs Legislation Designating White Shrimp as the Official State Crustacean

ATLANTA – Yesterday, Speaker of the House Jon Burns (R-Newington), State Representative Steven Sainz (R-St Marys), chairman of the House Special Rules Committee, and other legislators joined Governor Brian Kemp in Brunswick, Ga. as he signed House Bill 1341 into law. Sponsored by Rep. Sainz and a priority of the First Lady of the House Dayle Burns, this legislation designates White Shrimp as the official state crustacean of Georgia.
