The Georgia Legislative Black Caucus (GLBC) Issues Call to Action

ATLANTA – The Georgia Legislative Black Caucus (GLBC) today issued a call to action in observance of the 90th birthday of Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. The GLBC’s call to action is issued to all citizens and elected officials to act now to dissolve political tension in Georgia.

“We continue to pledge our support for local, state, national and international events that celebrate the life and legacy of Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.,” said Rep. Cannon. “Come to District 58 to partake in the weeklong events, annual march down Peachtree Street, prayer breakfast, ecumenical service, non-violent training and more.”

“We thank the MLK Advisory Council for working with Delta Airlines to re-open the federal park grounds where the late Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and Coretta Scott King lay to rest,” said GLBC Chairwoman, Rep. Karen Bennett (D-Stone Mountain).

GLBC and MLK Advisory Council member, Senator Emanuel Jones, encouraged Georgia legislators saying, “Now is the time for Georgia’s officials to be bold enough to change laws that disenfranchise voters, underpay workers, and deny healthcare to thousands of families.”
