ATLANTA – House Majority Caucus Whip James Burchett (R-Waycross) is remembering the tragic events of September 11, 2001, and issued the following statement:
“Twenty-two years ago, our nation was hit by the largest terrorist attack in history. Nearly 3,000 of our fellow Americans were murdered that day, but thousands more across our nation were impacted through the loss of family, friends and loved ones.
“While New York City, the Pentagon and Shanksville are far away from the 176th House District, we have neighbors here who were impacted as well – whether our military men and women serving nearby at Moody or far from home in Afghanistan and elsewhere, or those with friends and family in the communities most affected.
“As our community remembers the tragedy of 9/11 in both public remembrances and private prayers, I will always work to recognize those who protect us at home and abroad and will always do my best to ensure that we remember and memorialize that fateful day.”
Representative James Burchett represents the citizens of District 176, which includes Atkinson and Lanier counties and portions of Coffee, Lowndes and Ware counties. He was elected to the House of Representatives in 2019 and currently serves as the House Majority Whip. He also serves on the Ethics, Judiciary, Judiciary Non-Civil and Transportation committees and as an Ex-Officio member of the Rules Committee.
