ATLANTA – State Representatives Roger Williams (R-Dalton), Tom Dickson (R-Cohutta), and Tom Weldon (R-Ringgold) and State Senator Charlie Bethel (R-Dalton) released the following joint statement today regarding the final passage of House Bill 78, the Fiscal Year 2012 state budget:
“Today the House and Senate came together and passed a balanced state budget for the upcoming fiscal year. Not only does this budget meet the needs of Georgians across the state, but it also includes $8,075,000 dollars for academic building construction at Dalton State College. Realizing the urgent need for this construction, the Whitfield County Delegation came together and worked with House and Senate leadership, as well as the Board of Regents, to secure funding for this vital project, which will help continue the success and growth of our local college and bring jobs and economic development to our communities.
“In this environment of limited budgets, we are pleased to see the high priority the General Assembly has placed on the future of Dalton State College. This $8 million is significant because it brings us half way to full funding of the project. We will continue working together during next year’s session to ensure that the FY’13 budget includes sufficient funds to complete the project.”
