Reps. Schofield, Scott, Burnough, Davis Issue Statements Ahead of 9/11 20th Anniversary

ATLANTA – State Representatives Kim Schofield (D-Atlanta), Sandra Scott (D-Rex), Viola Davis (D-Stone Mountain) and Rhonda Burnough (D-Burnough) today issued statements ahead of the 20th anniversary of 9/11 to remember the lives that have been lost as a result of the attacks.

“I am a New Yorker, born, proud and resilient,” said Rep. Schofield. “September 11, 2001, forever changed life as I knew it. When I heard the news, I was living in Decatur. I called my family and friends. They were safe, but many others were not. When one hurts, we all hurt. When we heal our nation that’s when we all heal. I can’t and won’t forget the service and sacrifice of the many that left their homes, lives and businesses as usual but never returned. I honor them and hold them and the family they left behind in remembrance. I also want to thank all of the fire and EMS workers, police officers, soldiers from all branches of the military and countless of civilians who have sacrificed to keep our country safe.”

“We must never forget 9/11,” said Rep. Scott. “To the families of those who were lost on 9/11, I continue to pray for you and your family. We must stay woke and stay vigilant against our enemies – foreign and domestic. Today, we continue to celebrate the heroism of our veterans, active duty military, first responders and volunteers who work long hours and sometimes days to protect and defend us. I love you, and please know that I will never leave you alone.”

“I pray the memory of 9/11 will ignite acts of togetherness that will go beyond politics, race, hatred and any divisiveness,” said Rep. Davis. “I pray for increased unity beyond 9/11.”

“Thank you for your service on 9/11,” said Rep. Burnough. “Your sacrifice made the difference in the lives of many Americans. We lost police officers and firemen who ran into those buildings to save lives. U.S. soldiers fought and died in battle or as a result of war to defend our country against that terrorist attack. We thank your families because they made the ultimate sacrifice for our country. We will also never forget those ordinary citizens that died while going about their everyday routines. Today, we pray that the peace of God will be with their loved ones.”
