Rep. Rick Townsend Sworn in, Receives Committee Assignments for the 2023-2024 Legislative Term

ATLANTA – State Representative Rick Townsend(R-St. Simons) was sworn into office as a member of the Georgia House of Representatives on Monday, January 9, 2023, marking his first day of the 2023-2024 legislative term. Monday was the first day of the first term of the 157th Legislative Session of the Georgia General Assembly.

“I would like to thank Speaker Burns for appointing me to several committees that make a positive impact on House District 179, especially the House Education Committee,” said Rep. Townsend. “Having more than 30 years of experience in education, including 10 years as the CEO of the Golden Isles College & Career Academy, has equipped me to serve on this committee, and I look forward to vetting policies that shape our public education system. I am also equally excited to serve as Secretary of the House Natural Resources Committee, which oversees legislation to protect our state’s vital natural resources and environment.”

In addition to being officially sworn in, the Georgia House of Representatives’ Committee on Assignments named Rep. Townsend as the Secretary of the Natural Resources & Environment Committee and a member of the Education and Special Rules committees.

The House Committee on Assignments, chaired by House Speaker Jon Burns (R-Newington), is charged with making all House committee assignments for the members of the Georgia House of Representatives. 

Representative Rick Townsend represents the citizens of District 179, which includes portions of Glynn counties. He was elected to the House of Representatives in 2022 and currently serves as the Secretary of the Natural Resources & Environment Committee and a member of the Education and Special Rules committees.
