ATLANTA – State Representative Rick Townsend (R-Brunswick) recently joined Governor Brian Kemp at the Georgia State Capitol for the signing of House Bill 235, the Georgia Supporting Living Donor Educators Act.
“With the signing of the Georgia Supporting Living Donor Educators Act into law, Georgia is taking a significant step forward in supporting our educators and postsecondary employees who choose to donate bone marrow or organs,” said Rep. Townsend. “These donors are true heroes, and this law removes unnecessary barriers to their lifesaving generosity. I am proud to support legislation that ensures Georgia’s donors are appreciated and protected for their selfless acts. I am grateful to Governor Kemp and my legislative colleagues for their commitment and hard work in making this important measure a reality.”
HB 235 requires employers of school employees, teachers and postsecondary employees to provide leaves of absence for the donation of bone marrow and organs.
