ATLANTA – State Representative Chuck Martin (R-Alpharetta), chairman of the House Higher Education Committee, was recently appointed by House Speaker Jon Burns (R-Newington) to serve on both the House Blue-Ribbon Study Committee on Local Government Taxation, Funding, and Budgeting and the House Blue-Ribbon Study Committee on Education Performance Metrics and Workforce Stability.
“I am honored to be appointed to these two important study committees by Speaker Burns,” said Chairman Martin. “These committees will take a thoughtful look at some of the most important issues facing our state, from ensuring responsible stewardship of taxpayer dollars at the local level to strengthening Georgia’s education system and workforce pipeline. As chairman of the House Higher Education Committee, I look forward to bringing my experience in education policy to the Education Performance Metrics and Workforce Stability study committee. I am grateful to Speaker Burns for his confidence in me, and I look forward to working with my colleagues to develop meaningful recommendations that will benefit communities across Georgia.”
The House Blue-Ribbon Study Committee on Local Government Taxation, Funding, and Budgeting will evaluate Georgia’s local funding mechanisms to strengthen transparency, ensure fairness for hardworking taxpayers and increase fiscal accountability for local governments.
Speaker Burns also appointed the following study committee members: State Representatives Chas Cannon (R-Moultrie), Robert Flournoy (D-Hampton), Mitchell Scoggins (R-Cartersville), Josh Bonner (R-Fayetteville), Victor Anderson (R-Cornelia), Matt Dubnik (R-Gainesville), Mike Cheokas (R-Americus), Shaw Blackmon (R-Bonaire), Trey Kelley (R-Cedartown), Lauren McDonald, III (R-Cumming) and Yasmin Neal (D-Jonesboro).
The House Blue-Ribbon Study Committee on Education Performance Metrics and Workforce Stability will evaluate Georgia’s education evaluation measures to strengthen accountability, improve student success and strengthen teacher recruitment and retention.
Speaker Burns also appointed the following study committee members: State Representatives Bethany Ballard (R-Warner Robins), Carmen Rice (R-Columbus), Sandy Donatucci (R-Buford), Phil Olaleye (D-Atlanta), Karen Lupton (D-Chamblee), Omari Crawford (D-Decatur), Scott Hilton (R-Peachtree Corners), Deborah Silcox (R-Sandy Springs) and Leesa Hagan (R-Lyons).

Representative Chuck Martin represents the citizens of District 49, which includes a portion of Fulton County. He was first elected to the House of Representatives in 2002 and currently serves as Chairman of the Higher Education Committee. He also serves on the Appropriations Subcommittee on Higher Education, Creative Arts & Entertainment, Energy, Utilities & Telecommunications, Regulated Industries, Retirement, Rules and Ways & Means committees.
