Rep. Alex Atwood Named Chairman of House Appropriations Subcommittee on Public Safety

ATLANTA – The Georgia House of Representatives’ Committee on Assignments named State Representative Alex Atwood (R-St. Simons Island) as the Chairman of the House Appropriations Subcommittee on Public Safety. Rep. Atwood will also serve as the Vice-Chairman of the Juvenile Justice Committee, Secretary of the Public Safety & Homeland Security Committee, and a member of the Insurance, Judiciary Non-Civil, the Appropriations subcommittee on Higher Education, and Insurance committees.

“I am very humbled and grateful to Speaker Ralston and the Committee on Assignments for trusting me with this serious responsibility,” said Rep. Atwood.

The House Committee on Assignments, chaired by House Speaker David Ralston (R-Blue Ridge), is charged with making all House committee assignments for the members of the Georgia House of Representatives.

Representative Alex Atwood represents the citizens of District 179, which includes portions of Glynn County. He was elected into the House of Representatives in 2010, and currently serves as the Chair of the Appropriations Subcommittee on Public Safety, Vice Chair of Juvenile Justice, and as the Secretary of the Public Safety and Homeland Security Committee. He also serves as a member on the Appropriations Subcommittee on Higher Education, Insurance, and Judiciary Non-Civil committees.
