Rep. Jay Powell Named Chairman of House Ways and Means Committee

ATLANTA – The Georgia House of Representatives’ Committee on Assignments named State Representative Jay Powell (R-Camilla) as the Chairman of the House Ways and Means Committee. Rep. Powell will also serve as a member on the Governmental Affairs, MARTOC, Rules, and Judiciary committees.

“I would like to thank Speaker Ralston and my fellow colleagues who serve on the Committee on Assignments for their confidence and entrusting me with this new chairmanship,” said Rep. Powell. “I look forward to working with members of this committee to serve the best interests of all Georgians.”

The House Committee on Assignments, chaired by House Speaker David Ralston (R-Blue Ridge), is charged with making all House committee assignments for the members of the Georgia House of Representatives.

Representative Jay Powell represents the citizens of District 171, which includes portions of Colquitt, Decatur, and Mitchell counties. He was elected into the House of Representatives in 2008, and currently serves as the Chair of the House Ways and Means Committee and Ex-Officio of the Appropriations Committee. He also serves on the Governmental Affairs, Judiciary, Rules, and MARTOC committees.
