ATLANTA—Speaker of the House Glenn Richardson (R-Hiram) has tapped State Representative Clay Cox to be Chairman of the House Study Committee on Pandemic Preparedness and Response.
“I am pleased that Representative Cox has accepted this responsibility,” Richardson said. “I am confident that he will do a great job for our state.”
The committee will be making recommendations to the 2007 General Assembly concerning the state’s preparedness in the event of a public health emergency. The members of the study committee will evaluate the state’s preparedness plan considering interagency cooperation, the coordination of medical care and medications, and other issues related to pandemic preparedness.
“I am honored that the Speaker has entrusted me chairing this committee,” Cox said. “With the likelihood that bird flu is coming to our state, we have a lot of important work to do.”
The committee was created by the passage of House Resolution 1560, authored by Rep. Clay Cox. The committee will end its meeting on December 31, 2006.
