SPEAKER APPOINTS REPRESENTATIVE JILL CHAMBERS TO THE HOUSE STUDY COMMITTEE ON REPORTING REQUIREMENTS FOR LOCAL SCHOOL SYSTEMS

ATLANTA—Speaker of the House Glenn Richardson (R-Hiram) has tapped State Representative Jill Chambers to the House Study Committee on Reporting Requirements for Local School Systems.

“I am pleased that Representative Chambers has accepted this responsibility,” Richardson said. “I am confident that she will do a great job for our state.”

The committee will be looking into making recommendations to the next General Assembly in 2007 regarding reporting requirements for local school systems. HR 410, creating the study committee, originated out of concern about the increasing number of reports and data that local school systems are required to submit to state government and the Department of Education. Members of the Georgia House of Representatives believe that it is in the best interest of the public education system of Georgia to review the reporting requirements of local school systems, and to determine whether those reports are necessary to meet and exceed the goals of public education.

The committee was created by the passage of House Resolution 410, authored by Rep. Tom Dickson. The study committee will end its meetings on December 31, 2006.
