ATLANTA— State Representative Dave Belton (R-Buckhead) will file a House Resolution on Friday which would create the House Study Committee on Base Realignment and Closure.
“More than 225,000 Georgians are employed as personnel or active duty at one of our state’s 12 military bases, making this the fifth largest military population in the nation,” said Rep. Belton. “As a retired Air Force Major, I not only understand the economic benefit of these military installations, but the pride they bring to our great state and to those who they employ. Therefore, it is imperative that we take action to preserve the livelihood of those who give so selflessly each and every day.”
The House Study Committee on Base Realignment and Closure would be composed of 15 members, including the Chair, appointed by the Speaker of the House. The committee would study the conditions, needs, issues, and problems associated with federal decisions on base realignments and closures and recommend any legislative action deemed necessary.
