ACCG Honors Rep. David Jenkins With 2023 Legislative Service Award

ATLANTA – State Representative David Jenkins (R-Grantville) was recently recognized by the Association County Commissioners of Georgia (ACCG) with a 2023 Legislative Service Award. The ACCG Legislative Service Awards program honors state House and Senate members for their work during the legislative session.

“The technologies of the 21st century are changing how we share information, and, as a result, our laws must change so that legal processes can proceed uninterrupted and the information contained in legal notices is disseminated to everyone who needs it,” said Rep. Jenkins. “I am proud of the work I was able to accomplish with the help of the ACCG, the Georgia Municipal Association and the Press Association.”

Rep. Jenkins sponsored House Bill 254, an ACCG 2023 policy objective, to reform local governments’ legal advertisement process. This new law allows counties’ legal notices to be placed online in addition to being placed in the legal organ. If an error is made in the text or publication date of the legal organ, the online posting will suffice to meet state legal advertising requirements.

“The annual Legislative Service Awards program allows ACCG, on behalf of Georgia’s county commissioners, to express appreciation to the dedicated members of the Georgia General Assembly,” said Executive Director Dave Wills. “This program showcases the importance of state and local officials working together to best serve those who call our state home.”

Todd Edwards, ACCG’s deputy director of governmental affairs, presented Rep. Jenkins with his award during the recent Coweta County Commission meeting.

The Association County Commissioners of Georgia is Georgia’s county association. It works on the behalf of county officials and their communities by providing public policy and legislative advocacy, leadership development, civic and community engagement initiatives, insurance and retirement programs that specialize in local government needs, and other cost-saving programs. Formed in 1914 when county officials came together to help fund the state’s first highway department, ACCG today serves as a catalyst for advancing Georgia’s counties. Representative David Jenkins represents the citizens of District 136, which includes portions of Coweta, Meriwether and Troup counties. He was elected to the House of Representatives in 2020 and currently serves as Vice Chairman of the Juvenile Justice Committee and Secretary of the Retirement and Transportation committees. He also serves on the Agriculture & Consumer Affairs, Defense & Veterans Affairs and Public Safety and Homeland Security committees.
