Atrial Fibrillation Day: Raising Awareness of a Silent Risk

This session I sponsored House Resolution 1717 which recognizes May 14, 2014, as Atrial Fibrillation Day in the state of Georgia to help raise awareness about this serious, silent threat to many Georgians. Atrial fibrillation, the most common form of arrhythmia, occurs when the electrical activity of the heart is disorganized, causing an irregular heartbeat, disrupting the flow of blood through the heart and into the brain. Adults 40 years and older have a 25 percent lifetime risk of developing atrial fibrillation. Risk factors for atrial fibrillation include high blood pressure, heart failure, diabetes, alcohol misuse, advanced age, thyroid disease and heart disease. Rep. Trey Kelley earns “A+” from Georgia Chamber for 2013-2014 Legislative Term

ATLANTA – State Representative Trey Kelley (R-Cedartown) received an ‘A+’ from the Georgia Chamber of Commerce on its 2013-2014 Legislative Scorecard. Rep. B.J. Pak Earns ‘A+’ from Georgia Chamber

ATLANTA – State Representative B.J. Pak (R-Lilburn) received an “A+” from the Georgia Chamber of Commerce on its 2014 Legislative Scorecard. The Chamber’s scorecard grades Georgia lawmakers based on their votes on certain pro-business measures considered during the 2014 General Assembly session. Rep. Rep. Calvin Smyre Comments on Statue of Martin Luther King, Jr. on Capitol Grounds Bill Signing

ATLANTA – State Representative Calvin Smyre (D-Columbus) commented today on Governor Nathan Deal signing into law House Bill 1080, legislation that authorizes the placement of a statue of Martin Luther King, Jr. on the grounds of the State Capitol. Sponsored by Rep. Smyre, Dean of the House, HB 1080 received bipartisan support from House and Senate leadership, as well as the Office of the Governor.
