ATLANTA — State Representative Tom Knox (R-Cumming) today introduced a constitutional amendment to give the General Assembly more control over the state’s 4-H program by removing it from the Board of Regents. ATLANTA – The Georgia House of Representatives today passed House Bill 1082 by a vote of 151-4.  Sponsored by Representative Jay Powell (R-Camilla), HB 1082 is aimed at allowing local governments to expand Freeport ad valorem exemptions to all types of business inventory. Continue reading

House Passes Legislation to Help Return Missing Pets to Their Homes

ATLANTA – The Georgia House of Representatives today unanimously passed House Bill 1106. Sponsored by Representative Gene Maddox (R-Cairo), HB 1106 requires animal shelters to scan animals for microchips.
“Since so many pets are now being implanted with microchips, occasionally some are being picked up by animal control,” said Representative Maddox. “Scanning will help return animals to their homes and save them from being unnecessarily euthanized.” Continue reading
