ATLANTA- Representative Amy Carter (D- Valdosta) gained new influential committee assignments last week when new House Speaker David Ralston (R-Blue Ridge) appointed her Secretary of the Higher Education Committee and gave her a position on the newly created Special Committee on Small Business Development and Jobs Creation. Rep. Jay Neal Sponsors Addiction Recovery Awareness Day

ATLANTA – On January 14, 2010, State Representative Jay Neal (R-LaFayette) introduced House Resolution 1126, declaring the day as Addiction Recovery Awareness Day at the Georgia state Capitol. Rep. Allen Peake Proposes Legislation to Prohibit Texting while Driving

ATLANTA— Last week state Representative Allen Peake (R-Bibb County) introduced House Bill 938, legislation that prohibits texting while driving. Under the legislation anyone found guilty of writing, sending, or reading a text-based communication on a wireless telecommunications device would be issued a fine of $50 to $100 and have a two point penalty added to their drivers’ license.
