Georgia House Democratic Caucus COVID-19 Response Team to Hold Press Conference Tomorrow

ATLANTA – The Georgia House Democratic Caucus (GHDC) COVID-19 Response Team will hold a press conference TOMORROW, Wednesday, September 1, 2021, at 10 a.m. at the South Wing Steps of the State Capitol.

“The delta variant has led to a third major surge in COVID -19 cases, with seven-day averages outpacing the early months of the pandemic,” said House Minority Leader James Beverly (D-Macon). “Recently, Georgia passed one million COVID-19 cases, and in response, we are asking the governor to take important actions.”

At the press conference, State Representatives Roger Bruce (D-Atlanta), Donna McLeod (D-Lawrenceville) and Rebecca Mitchell (D-Snellville) will address the contagiousness of the virus and the state’s hospital ICU bed capacity. They will also discuss the impact that the delta variant has had on school districts and children.

The GHDC COVID-19 Response Team urges the governor to institute statewide mask mandates for all schools, including colleges and universities, based on the Center for Disease Control and Prevention’s recommendations. They also urge the governor and the state school superintendent to develop a unified virtual learning infrastructure that could help educators continue their work within the school system.
