Georgia House of Representatives Passes Legislation to Allow Schools to Accept Donations for Field Trips

ATLANTA — The Georgia House of Representatives today passed House Bill 1200 by a vote of 160-1.  Sponsored by Representative Mike Glanton (D-Ellenwood), HB 1200 allows school boards to solicit and accept donations from legal sources for field trips and other school-related purposes.

“Field trips give students a hands-on approach to concepts and lessons that might not be as easily grasped in a classroom setting,” said Representative Glanton. “Unfortunately, with budget cuts to systems and tax base erosions, schools might not be able to afford these valuable programs without help from donations.  This legislation gives school systems a way to continue education related field trips so that Georgia students will receive a first class education.”

Bill co-sponsors include Representatives Kevin Levitas (D-Atlanta), David Casas (R-Lilburn), Howard Maxwell (R-Dallas), Jimmy Pruett (R-Eastman), and Amy Carter (D-Valdosta).

HB 1200 will now be sent to the Senate for consideration.  A link to the bill can be found by clicking here.
