Georgia House of Representatives Passes Legislation to Increase Safety of Golf Carts

ATLANTA — The Georgia House of Representatives yesterday passed SB 519 by a vote of 147-2.  Carried in the House by state Representative Barbara Sims (R-Augusta), the legislation sets safety feature requirements for golf carts and other “electric low speed vehicles” if local governments allow operation of these vehicles after sunset.

“SB 519 will ensure the safe use of golf carts in Georgia communities,” said Representative Sims.  “The safety requirements in SB 519 will boost support of golf carts among consumers and citizens in Georgia and help continue the success of local employers like E-Z-Go and Club Car.”

Georgia manufacturers currently produce more electric vehicles than any other place in the world.  The industry currently accounts for over 4000 jobs in Georgia.  SB 519 is expected to help the golf cart industry grow their market.

SB 519 has passed both the House and Senate and will now be sent to the Governor for consideration.  A link to the legislation can be found by clicking here.
