Rep. Dempsey’s Legislation Passes House and Senate

ATLANTA- State Representative Katie Dempsey (R- Rome) completed a successful sweep this legislative session, with four of her bills receiving final passage.  House Bill 1179, House Bill 1085, House Bill 863, and House Bill 1005 all passed the House and Senate and now await signature by the Governor.

“I am pleased that all four pieces of legislation have passed both the House and Senate,” said Representative Dempsey. “They are representative of the productivity achieved this legislative session.  I look forward to seeing the positive impact they will have on Georgians and my constituents in Floyd County.”

HB 1179 requires hospitals to annually offer influenza vaccinations to healthcare workers and other hospital employees.  This will help stop the spread of deadly flu viruses throughout Georgia hospitals.  A link to the bill can be found by clicking here.

HB 1085 seeks to ease transitions for children in foster care.  The legislation requires that siblings taken into foster care be placed together unless such placement is contrary to their best interest.  The bill further requires an attempt to keep children in the school that they are currently enrolled in when placed in foster care.  HB 1085 also requires a transitional living plan personalized for each child within 90 days of their 18th birthday.  A link to the bill can be found by clicking here.

HB 863 requires that unattended donation bins be clearly labeled for either charitable or non-charitable purposes.  Requested by the Georgia Goodwill Association and other non-profit organizations, the legislation addresses an increased number of unattended donation bins operated by for-profit entities.  A link to the bill can be found by clicking here.
