Georgia Legislative Black Caucus Condemns Violence and Terror that Occurred in Charlottesville, Virginia

ATLANTA – The Georgia Legislative Black Caucus (GLBC) today condemned a car attack and other acts of violence against peaceful protesters that occurred in Charlottesville, Va., on Saturday, August 12, 2017.

“The Georgia Legislative Black Caucus stands firmly with the Virginia Legislative Black Caucus and the Congressional Black Caucus (CBC) in condemning the senseless acts of violence fueled by racism and terror that occurred this past weekend in Charlottesville, Virginia,” said State Representative William Boddie (D-East Point), GLBC Communications Chair. “Violence and domestic terrorism have no place in civilized society, and I am deeply appalled by the attacks that took place on Saturday. Our prayers are with the victims and families of the peaceful protestors who were maliciously plowed down by a car. May God be with them all.”

“I’m appalled at these domestic terrorist actions in 2017. These actions should be treated as domestic terrorism. Those involved should be prosecuted to the fullest extent of all federal and state laws,” said State Senator Lester Jackson (D-Savannah), GLBC Chairman.

An Ohio man recently drove a car into a group of protesters in Charlottesville, Va., killing one and injuring 19 others. The accused is currently in custody awaiting trial with no bail bond.

Representative William Boddie represents the citizens of District 62, which includes portions of Douglas and Fulton counties. He was elected into the House of Representatives in 2016, and currently serves on the Budget & Fiscal Affairs Oversight, Judiciary Non-Civil, and Small Business Development committees.
