ATLANTA – State Representative Sharon Cooper (R-Marietta), Chairman of the House Health and Human Services Committee, was recently honored by the Georgia Society of Ophthalmology (GSO) as the Legislator of the Year during the GSO Winter Meeting on February 8, 2019.
“I am grateful to the Georgia Society of Ophthalmology for recognizing me with this prestigious award,” said Rep. Cooper. “As the Chairman of the House Health and Human Services Committee, I hope to consider and champion legislation that betters the health for all of our citizens, including eye health.”
“Representative Sharon Cooper has shown remarkable dedication and persistence throughout the years,” said GSO Executive Director Travis Lindley, “I was thrilled that we were able to honor her as Legislator of the Year. We can all learn from her example as a zealous servant for healthcare in Georgia.”
The GSO’s Legislator of the Year award is presented annually in recognition of a legislator who has demonstrated a commitment to ophthalmology and has used his or her skills and resources to help pass legislation that addresses relevant issues.
The GSO is a statewide organization in Georgia that represents the interests of ophthalmologists and their patients. The GSO’s activities include legislative advocacy, continuing medical education for ophthalmologists and public education about important eye health care concerns.
Representative Sharon Cooper represents the citizens of District 43, which includes portions of Cobb County. She was elected to the House of Representatives in 1996 and currently serves as Chairman of the Health & Human Services Committee.
