Gov. Deal Commends Rep. Amy Carter during State of the State Address for Her Role as a Teacher

ATLANTA – State Representative Amy Carter (R-Valdosta) was recognized by Governor Nathan Deal during his seventh annual State of the State address on Wednesday, January 11, 2017, before a joint session of the House and Senate. Gov. Deal praised Rep. Carter for her work as a teacher in a video highlighting the importance of educators.

“I’m grateful to serve my community and state as a full-time teacher and as a part-time legislator,” said Rep. Carter. “I feel that my experiences both in the classroom and at the Capitol benefit one another and allow me to continue to grow in each area. I would like to thank my family, colleagues, friends, students, the Lowndes County school system, and all who have allowed me to serve in this capacity for the last 11 years. Finally, I’d like to thank our state’s leader, Governor Deal, for the confidence and trust he has shown me through my service as a floor leader and chair of the Teacher Advisory Committee.”

During his address, Gov. Deal thanked Rep. Carter for chairing Georgia’s Teacher Advisory Committee and for her continued leadership on state education matters.

Representative Amy Carter represents the citizens of District 175, which includes portions of Brooks, Lowndes, and Thomas counties. She was elected into the House of Representatives in 2006 and is currently the Chairman of the Appropriations Subcommittee on General Government. She also serves on the Agriculture & Consumer Affairs, Education, Higher Education, Governmental Affairs, and the Small Business Development committees.
