ATLANTA – State Representatives Brian Strickland (R-McDonough), Demetrius Douglas (D-Stockbridge), Dale Rutledge (R-McDonough), Andy Welch (R-Locust Grove) and Senator Rick Jeffares (R-McDonough), along with the support of the Henry County delegation as a whole, recently expressed support of Governor Nathan Deal’s FY2017 budget proposal,which allocates bond funding to construction projects for Henry County’s Austin Road Middle School and Cotton Indian Elementary School in Stockbridge.
“Providing our children with a quality education is a fundamental right and is of the utmost importance to ensuring the prosperity of future generations of Georgians, and of our state as a whole,” said Rep. Rutledge. “Giving our children a learning environment in which they can thrive is essential, and with these bonds, we will ensure that we have improved facilities for our students at Austin Road Middle School and Cotton Indian Elementary.”
Gov. Deal’s proposed budget outlines a recommended bond package under which state agencies receive bond allocations. The Department of Education section calls for $547,438 in state bond funding for renovations of Cotton Indian Elementary with a project total of $1.7 million. The proposed budget also calls for an additional $1,474,363 in state funding to be allocated for modifications to Austin Road Middle School with a project total of $4.2 million.
