ATLANTA – The House Blue-Ribbon Study Committee on Local Government Taxation, Funding, and Budgeting, chaired by State Representative Chas Cannon (R-Moultrie), will hold its second meeting on Wednesday, August 19, 2026, from 9 a.m. – 1 p.m. in room 606 of the Coverdell Legislative Office Building in Atlanta, Ga.
During the meeting, study committee members will hear testimony on the following topics: the current requirements and regulations for local government finances and investments; potential investment opportunities for local governments using undesignated reserves; financing options for local governments; the impacts of House Bill 244 on local governments; audit compliance requirements and challenges; and underwriting, financing, bond issuance and credit ratings for local governments.
The House Blue-Ribbon Study Committee on Local Government Taxation, Funding, and Budgeting will evaluate Georgia’s local funding mechanisms to strengthen transparency, ensure fairness for hardworking taxpayers and increase fiscal accountability for local governments.
