House Media Services Director Receives 2020 Legislative Staff Achievement Award from National Professional Development Organization

ATLANTA – Georgia House of Representatives Media Services Director Betsy Theroux recently received the 2020 Legislative Staff Achievement Award from the Legislative Information and Communications Staff (LINCS) professional development association. A program of the National Conference of State Legislatures (NCSL), LINCS is a network of legislative employees that promote improved and effective communications between public information and communications staff and their legislatures, staff and constituents.

“Betsy is an invaluable member of our House staff serving both as our House Messenger and leading our media services team,” said Speaker David Ralston (R-Blue Ridge). “She is a terrific example of selfless dedication, and she embodies the best of public service. I congratulate her on this well-deserved recognition.”

The 2020 Legislative Staff Achievement Award is designed to recognize those who demonstrate excellence in supporting the work of a state legislature and strengthening the legislative institution. Mrs. Theroux currently serves as the chair of LINCS, and she is also a member of NCSL’s Legislative Staff Coordinating Committee (LSCC). She was chosen by past LINCS Chair Tim Bommel, a photojournalist with the Missouri House of Representatives, for her leadership and collaboration with LINCS members, as well as her years of service and dedication to the Georgia House of Representatives.

“Betsy has been active in the LINCS association for several years, and throughout that time, she has always been an invaluable resource for other members looking to improve their personal or staff procedures,” said Tim Bommel. “Through her input and leadership, LINCS has grown and become a much stronger association. I have had the opportunity to see her leadership skills used, not only through LINCS, but also during her time on the LSCC. Her ability to jump right in, contribute and lead has benefited us all.”

House Budget and Research Office Director Martha Wigton, who also serves as the staff chair of the NCSL’s Executive Committee, commended Mrs. Theroux for her service to the LINCS association.

“Out of our nation’s 28,000 full-time staff, this award is reserved for the one superlative staffer whose efforts to support and promote the work of the legislative institution and its members shines,” said Martha Wigton. “Betsy Theroux inspires all of us to maintain a level of even-keeled excellence, and it is absolutely fitting that her service is recognized by her peers. Betsy’s positive professionalism never wavers, and to have her as the leader for our public communications strengthens the work of everything we do.”

LINCS provides legislative communicators with a network of more than 400 professionals from around the country with whom to share ideas and experiences. Its members include communications directors, public information officers, press secretaries, audio technicians, photographers and videographers, civic educators and all those who serve as the external liaisons between the nation’s state legislatures and their constituents.
