House Speaker David Ralston Appoints Dr. Lynn Plunkett to the Charter Advisory Committee

ATLANTA – House Speaker David Ralston (R-Blue Ridge) today announced the appointment of Floyd County School Superintendent Dr. Lynn Plunkett to the Charter Advisory Committee.

“Dr. Plunkett is widely respected within the education community for her work as a superintendent of a charter system,” said House Speaker David Ralston. “She will make a great addition to this committee as it continues to develop a statewide charter policy.”

The Charter Advisory Committee makes recommendations for approval or denial of charter system petitions and advises the State Board of Education on charter policy. The Committee works in cooperation with the Charter Schools Division and assists charter petitioners with innovative education programs and school level governance based on research and model programs. It also monitors and assists approved charter systems throughout the state.

Dr. Plunkett has a proven record of success in the field of education as a teacher and administrator. Prior to becoming the Floyd County School Superintendent in 2007, she served in as the county’s interim superintendent and assistant superintendent for six years. Plunkett has served on the transition team of State School Superintendent Dr. John Barge and currently serves on the state committee to review education funding in Georgia. She is a graduate of Coosa High School, Berry College, and The University of West Georgia. Plunkett earned her Doctor of Education degree from Nova Southeastern University.
