Joint House and Senate Atlanta Legislative Delegation to Hold Virtual Meeting on Proposed Buckhead City

ATLANTA – State Representative Betsy Holland (D-Atlanta) and State Senator Nan Orrock (D-Atlanta), co-chairs of the joint House and Senate Atlanta Legislative Delegation, will hold a virtual meeting on Wednesday, January 12, 2022, at 2 p.m. via Zoom. Members of the joint delegation will discuss recent efforts to create a ballot referendum for local residents to consider incorporating Buckhead City. The delegation co-chairs have invited several guests to participate in the meeting, including Bill White, CEO of the Buckhead City Committee; and former State Representative Edward Lindsey, Committee for a United Atlanta. A detailed agenda for the meeting will be forthcoming.

“This hypothetical de-annexation of Buckhead would have a significant impact on the entire City of Atlanta,” said Sen. Orrock. “From economic instability to damaging our great city’s reputation, these bills could do irreparable damage not just to Atlanta, but the entire state of Georgia.”

“There’s no precedent for carving out a community from an existing city in Georgia,” said Rep. Holland. “We need this meeting to dig deeper into questions about how this proposal affects public schools, bond and pension obligations and future tax revenue.”
