Majority Leader Jon Burns Issues Statement on Passing of Rep. Henry “Wayne” Howard

ATLANTA – House Majority Leader Jon Burns (R-Newington) today issued the following statement regarding the recent passing of State Representative Henry “Wayne” Howard (D-Augusta):

“I want to extend my deepest condolences to Representative Howard’s family and friends. His service in the House proved that we can do great things regardless of the circumstances or challenges we’re dealt on this earth. He never stopped fighting to make life more accessible for those living with disabilities, and he always worked to ensure his constituents’ voices were heard in the House Chamber. Rep. Howard was a servant leader and consensus builder, and those closest to him in the House benefited from his quiet wisdom. He will certainly be missed by many in the General Assembly.”

            Rep. Howard passed away on Thursday, Oct. 13, 2022. Rep. Howard served the citizens of House District 124, which includes portions of Richmond County. He was elected to the Georgia House in 2006 and served on the Appropriations Subcommittee on Human Resources and the Education, Health & Human Services, Juvenile Justice and Motor Vehicles committees.

Representative Jon Burns represents the citizens of District 159, which includes Screven County and portions of Bulloch and Effingham counties. He was elected to the House of Representatives in 2006 and currently serves as House Majority Leader.
