Majority Whip Edward Lindsey Announces Newest Members of Whip Team

ATLANTA – Georgia House Majority Whip Edward Lindsey (R-Atlanta) announced today the new appointments of Representatives Jay Powell (R-Colquitt), Stephen Allison (R-Blairsville) and Tom Weldon (R-Whitfield) as Deputy Whips to the House of Representatives. These newest members of the majority whip team will play a crucial role in monitoring legislation as it moves through both chambers of the General Assembly and helping their fellow House members understand the details of bills and resolutions.
“These Deputy Whips constitute a group of representatives whose hard work and honesty has earned the respect of their fellow House members,” said Majority Whip Edward Lindsey. “Their reputations as fair and trustworthy individuals will enable them to be an effective part of the Whip team.”
Representatives Powell, Allison and Weldon will join returning Chief Deputy Whip Mark Williams (R-Jessup) and Deputy Whips Charlice Byrd (R-Woodstock), Katie Dempsey (R-Rome), Billy Horne (R-Coweta), Billy Maddox (R-Zebulon), Jay Neal (R-LaFayette), Randy Nix (R-LaGrange) and Barbara Sims (R-Augusta).
“During these most difficult economic times it’s crucial we move forward on behalf of all Georgians. I know each of these members of the Whip team, with their legislative understanding and steadfast counsel, can help each and every member of the House of Representatives to fulfill that goal,” added Lindsey.

Representative Edward Lindsey was elected by the Republican Caucus as their Majority Whip, the fourth highest ranking position in House leadership, on December 17, 2009. He represents the citizens of District 54, which includes portions of Fulton County. He was elected into the House of Representatives in 2004, and is currently serves on the Education, Industrial Relations, and Judiciary Committees.
