GUEST EDITORIAL: Shining a Light on the Inequity of Georgia’s Public School Funding System

It is urgent that we bring transparency to Georgia’s public school funding system by releasing new data obtained through an Open Records Request (ORR) that we submitted to the Georgia Department of Education. The request reveals the list of school districts that did not receive the Equalization Grant or Sparsity Grant for fiscal years 2023 and 2024, underscoring a growing concern about fairness, equity and how taxpayer dollars are distributed statewide.

Rep. Rick Townsend Appointed to House Study Committee on Student Attendance in PreK-12 Education

ATLANTA – State Representative Rick Townsend (R-Brunswick) was recently appointed by House Speaker Jon Burns (R-Newington) to serve on the House Study Committee on Student Attendance in PreK–12 Education. The study committee is set to hold its first meeting on Tuesday, July 22, 2025, at the Georgia State Capitol.

Rep. Steven Sainz Applauds Grant Funding to Support St. Marys Children’s Theatre

ATLANTA – State Representative Steven Sainz (R-St. Marys), chairman of the House Interstate Cooperation Committee, applauds the recent Project Grant funding that was awarded to the St. Marys Children’s Theatre to support its 2026 Spring Mainstage Production. The Georgia Council for the Arts (GCA), a division of the Georgia Department of Economic Development, recently announced a $5,000 grant for this organization as a part of its General Operating Support, Project and Arts Education Program grants.
