Georgia Lawmakers Commemorate 60th Anniversary of Medicare and Medicaid, Calling to Protect and Strengthen the Programs

ATLANTA – Today, State Representatives Kim Schofield (D-Atlanta), Viola Davis (D-Stone Mountain), Sandra Scott (D-Rex) and Rhonda Burnough (D-Riverdale) commemorate the 60th anniversary of Medicare and Medicaid. Signed into law on July 30, 1965, by President Lyndon B. Johnson, Medicare provides health coverage to seniors and people with disabilities, while Medicaid delivers care to low-income families, pregnant women, children and seniors in long-term care.

GUEST EDITORIAL: Georgia Expands Tuition Grant to Honor Public Servants Who Make the Ultimate Sacrifice

Georgia has offered the Public Safety Memorial Grant (PSMG) to children of fallen or permanently disabled public servants since the early 1990s. This outstanding program is funded by state appropriations and public donations. If you donated to the children of officers killed or permanently disabled in the line of duty when you renewed your license at the Department of Drivers Services, you supported this grant.
