Rep. Glanton Commends House Passage of Military Retirement Tax Exemption Legislation

ATLANTA – State Representative Mike Glanton (D-Jonesboro) commends the House passage of House Bill 1064, legislation which would create a tax exemption for military retirement income. Rep. Glanton previously co-sponsored similar legislation, House Bill 7, during the 2019 legislative session to create this tax exemption for military retirees.

            You and I have lived in a remarkable era of peace and prosperity. Throughout all of history, there have been only two other times when most of the world enjoyed such a long largess. For 200 years, between the reigns of Augustus Caesar and Marcus Aurelius, the Roman Empire enjoyed a Pax Romana. The world knew another 100 years of tranquility in the days when Queen Victoria reigned in her Pax Britannica. And, for the last 80 years, starting with the Allied victory in World War II, the world has enjoyed a Pax Americana, a blessed time of amity that both Democrat and Republican presidents have worked hard to protect.

Speaker David Ralston & Chairman Shaw Blackmon Announce Historic Income Tax Cut

State’s Largest-Ever Income Tax Cut will Save Georgians an Estimated $1 Billion a Year

ATLANTA – Today, Speaker David Ralston (R-Blue Ridge) and House Ways & Means Chairman Shaw Blackmon (R-Bonaire) announced legislation to lower Georgia’s maximum income tax rate from 5.75 percent to a single, flat rate of 5.25 percent. Combined with other measures in the proposed legislation, Georgians would save an estimated $1 billion per year when the cut goes into effect for the calendar year 2024.
