Democratic State Legislators Introduce Legislation to End Felony Disenfranchisement in Georgia

ATLANTA – State Representatives Josh McLaurin (D-Sandy Springs), Bee Nguyen (D-Atlanta), Gregg Kennard (D-Lawrenceville), Kim Schofield (D-Atlanta), Rebecca Mitchell (D-Snellville) and Erick Allen (D-Smyrna) today filed legislation to end felony disenfranchisement in Georgia. These Democratic state legislators will hold a press conference to discuss the legislation TODAY, Tuesday, January 19, 2021, at 1 p.m. at the late U.S. Rep. John Lewis mural in Atlanta (219 Auburn Ave NE). At the press conference, the bill sponsors will be joined by community leaders and activists and will give remarks about the significance of ending felony disenfranchisement.

Rep. Mandi Ballinger Supports Governor Brian Kemp’s Education Funding Proposal

ATLANTA – State Representative Mandi Ballinger (R-Canton), chair of the House Juvenile Justice Committee, today expressed her support for Governor Brian Kemp’s school funding proposal, which the governor announced during his annual State of the State address on Thursday, January 14. The governor’s proposed budget would restore funding to school systems across the state.

Rep. Wes Cantrell Introduces Georgia Educational Scholarship Act to Increase School Choice

ATLANTA – State Representative Wes Cantrell (R-Woodstock) recently introduced House Bill 60, or the Georgia Educational Scholarship Act. This legislation seeks to create greater educational choices for parents through an educational scholarship account (ESA) in which public education funds would be used for private educational opportunities.
