Statement of Speaker David Ralston Following the Resignation of Rep. Austin Scott as Chairman of the Governmental Affairs Committee

ATLANTA- Today Speaker of the Georgia House of Representatives David Ralston released the following statement regarding Rep. Austin Scott’s resignation as Chairman of the Governmental Affairs Committee in order to focus on his run for Governor of Georgia:

“I accept the resignation of Rep. Austin Scott from his position as chairman of the House Governmental Affairs Committee. I praise him for his statesman-like action for putting the House first. He has the qualities of a true leader that Georgians should be proud of. This action will enable him to spread his reform message across the State that I believe Georgians will find appealing. Republicans and Democrats join together to elect first woman to Speaker Pro Tem post

ATLANTA- On Monday, January 11th, Representative Jan Jones (R-Milton) was elected Speaker Pro Tem of the House of Representatives by a vote of 113-61. Both Republican and Democrat House members joined together to elect the first woman ever to this post in the Georgia House of Representatives.
