ATLANTA – State Representative Al Williams (D-Midway) today issues the following statement in response to the shooting which took place at Fort Stewart:
“I want to assure our community that I have been fully briefed on today’s incident at Fort Stewart and am coordinating directly on the ground with stakeholders and families as we respond to this tragedy.
At this time, there are no fatalities, and the shooter has been neutralized. Fort Stewart is no longer under lockdown, and I commend our law enforcement officers and military personnel for their swift and effective response to protect lives.
My heart is with the individuals and families impacted by today’s events, and I will continue working closely with local officials to support those affected and ensure our military community remains safe and secure.”
Representative Al Williams represents the citizens of District 168, which includes a portion of Liberty County. He was first elected to the House of Representatives in 2002 and currently serves on the Appropriations, Appropriations Subcommittee on Public Safety, Rules Subcommittee on Lawsuit Reform, Defense & Veterans Affairs, Economic Development & Tourism, Game, Fish & Parks, Regulated Industries, Rules and Rural Development committees.
