Georgia EMS chose Rep. Powell for the award because of his ongoing leadership to improve public safety in the state of Georgia. During the 2013 legislative session, Rep. Powell was the House sponsor of Senate Bill 216 which will positively impact the EMS community in Georgia. SB 216 revises a provision relating to the use of remote entry by hospital pharmacies and will also allow the medical director of an emergency service provider to contract with more than one pharmacy to provide drugs and consultant services. Governor Deal signed SB 216 into law on May 6, 2013.

“Representative Powell was chosen to receive this prestigious award because he is a longstanding advocate for improved patient care across the state,” said Kim Littleton, Executive Director of the GAEMS. “He was instrumental in the passage of legislation that will assist the EMS community in providing more effective and efficient patient care in Georgia.”
