Rep. Alisha Thomas Morgan Accepted into Broad Superintendents Academy

ATLANTA –State Representative Alisha Thomas Morgan (D-Austell) has been tapped to participate in the Broad Superintendents Academy, a national training program designed to prepare experienced leaders for the challenges of supervising urban school districts, state departments of education and high growth public charter systems. Rep. Morgan was one of 11 fellows selected out of 1,000 nominations for the 2014-2015 Academy.

“Being selected to participate as a Fellow in the Broad Superintendents Academy is one of the most significant honors of my legislative and professional careers.” said Rep. Morgan. “This unique opportunity gives me access to our nation’s leading practitioners in education and business. I look forward to being exposed to some of the best thought-leadership and innovations happening in our schools and classrooms today. The most fulfilling part of this journey will be bringing all that I learn and the relationships I’m able to develop with our country’s foremost education experts back home to benefit the 1.4 million students here in Georgia.”

As a part of the training, Rep. Morgan will attend five extended sessions over the course of an 18-month program. During each session, Fellows engage in debate and dialogue with experts in education. Sessions focus on: strategies and best-practice initiatives that have the highest potential to drive student achievement gains; essential implementation considerations; applied learning projects; insights from experts in education and from leaders from other fields; and customized learning support. Outside of these training sessions, Fellows will engage in team projects, field consultancies and shadow visits, and work with mentors and executive coaches to supplement their scholastic curriculum with real-life, “on-the-job” experiences. Additionally, the program seeks to strengthen core knowledge of K-12 education and policy through access to extensive resources including research readings, videos, webinars and robust toolkits.

As an initiative of the Broad Center for the Management of School Systems, the Academy has trained more than 35 district superintendents since its founding in 2002 and is the only national training organization of its kind.
