ATLANTA – State Representative Anissa Jones (D-Macon) recently introduced House Bill 480, legislation which seeks to improve absentee voting in Georgia by establishing a permanent absentee voter list.
“HB 480 ensures that absentee voters in Georgia can have a more streamlined and reliable voting experience,” said Rep. Jones. “By creating a permanent absentee voter list, we are enhancing accessibility, reducing voter barriers and ensuring that every eligible voter can participate in elections without unnecessary hurdles. The bill is especially essential for our seniors who rely on absentee voting.”
The bill would allow voters to request absentee ballots for future, regularly scheduled primaries, elections and runoffs in which they are eligible to vote, without needing to submit a new request each time. The absentee ballot application would include this option for voters to select. However, an elector would be required to reapply if they are moved to the inactive voter list or choose to opt out. The Secretary of State would maintain records of voters who select this option, and the information would be publicly accessible.
