Rep. Atwood Named Georgia Water Coalition (GWC) Clean Water Champion

ATLANTA — The Georgia Water Coalition (GWC) honored State Representative Alex Atwood (R-St. Simons Island) Wednesday with a Clean Water Champion Award at their meeting celebrating “Paddle Georgia” in Effingham County. Rep. Atwood was honored for his support of Georgia’s rivers, lakes, groundwater and streams during the 2015 legislative session.

“It is a distinct honor to receive the GWC Clean Water Champion Award,” said Rep. Atwood. “As a representative from coastal Georgia, I fully appreciate and support the preservation of our water resources.  I wish to thank each member of the Georgia Water Coalition for this honor, and will continue to do my best to represent all the citizens of House District 179 during my remaining term in Atlanta.”

The Georgia Water Coalition is an association of more than 200 conservation and environmental organizations, hunting and fishing groups, businesses, and community organizations that have been working to protect Georgia’s water since 2002. Their mission is “to protect and care for Georgia’s water resources, which are essential for sustaining Georgia’s prosperity, providing clean and abundant drinking water, preserving diverse aquatic habitats for wildlife and recreation, and strengthening property values.” It is estimated that their organization encompasses more than 250,000 Georgians, while consistently expanding their reach.

“Clean water initiatives should be an issue everyone can agree upon,” said Rep. Atwood. “We must make these issues a priority to ensure preservation for our future.”

Representative Alex Atwood represents the citizens of District 179, which includes portions of Glynn County. He was elected into the House of Representatives in 2010, and currently serves as a member of the Appropriations Committee and as a member on the Insurance, Juvenile Justice, Judiciary Non-Civil, and Public Safety and Homeland Security Committees.
