Rep. Beasley-Teague Announces the NFWL/NRA Scholarship Contest

ATLANTA – State Representative Sharon Beasley-Teague (D-Red Oak) along with The National Foundation for Women Legislators (NFWL) and the National Rifle Association (NRA) are pleased to announce the 16th Annual NFWL/NRA Bill of Rights Essay Scholarship Contest. Each year, NFWL and the NRA join forces to provide six female high school juniors or seniors with the chance to win a college scholarship.

“As the secretary of the NFWL, I am excited to let people know about this opportunity,” says Rep. Beasley-Teague. “This scholarship gives young women a chance to receive an education that they may not otherwise have been able to afford.”

This year, students from the classes of 2013 and 2014 are encouraged to apply for the scholarship. Interested parties must fill out an application, write a short essay on one of two possible topics, and obtain a sponsorship from a woman legislator from either the local or statewide level to sponsor their application. The six young women whose essays are selected will receive an award, a $3,000 scholarship, and an all-expense-paid trip to NFWL’s 2013 Annual Conference in Washington, D.C. from November 20-22.

Interested applicants should contact Representative Sharon Beasley-Teague, sharon.beasley-teague@house.ga.gov or 404-656-0220 for more information regarding the application, contest guidelines and sponsorship. Interested applicants can also contact Alex Rich at alex@womenlegislators.org or 202-293-3040. The deadline for entry is September 15th, 2013.

Through annual educational and networking events, the National Foundation for Women Legislators supports elected women from all levels of governance. As a non-profit, non-partisan organization, NFWL does not take ideological positions on public policy issues, but rather serves as a forum for women legislators to be empowered through information and experience.
