ATLANTA – State Representative Sharon Beasley-Teague (D-Red Oak) recently received the 2015 Elected Women of Excellence Award from the National Foundation for Women Legislators (NFWL) at the organization’s annual conference.
“I was honored to receive this award and feel blessed to be a public servant, having served my fellow Georgians for many years,” said Rep. Beasley-Teague. “It was a wonderful, positive and inspiring experience to be in the company of so many strong, elected women at the NFWL annual conference.”
Rep. Beasley-Teague was presented with the award by NFWL Chair-Elect, Delaware Representative Helene Keeley at the Petroleum Club on Monday, September 14, during the 2015 annual conference.
“Part of the spirit of NFWL is that we take time to recognize the significant achievements of the women around us and we are delighted to recognize this year’s honorees,” said Representative Keeley.
Rep. Beasley-Teague has been a member of the Georgia House of Representatives for 23 years. In addition to her years of service as a member of the House, she has hosted the “Back to School Jam” for school-age children in her community for 26 consecutive years, and she has also worked for 30 years to help raise scholarships funds for students in Georgia.
Award winners were nominated by their colleagues and constituents from their home states and then chosen by a panel of NFWL members.
This award was created to identify women who have worked tirelessly, often breaking down barriers and overcoming obstacles that once seemed insurmountable, to serve their communities. According to NFWL, award recipients are pacesetters who have engendered an environment where women can now serve in public office and fight for the issues they are passionate about.
“We celebrate the resilient leadership qualities, focused work ethic, and determination these women have and look forward to sharing their future successes,” added Representative Keeley.
Through annual educational and networking events, the National Foundation for Women Legislators supports elected women from all levels of governance. As a non-profit, non-partisan organization, NFWL does not take ideological positions on public policy issues, but rather serves as a forum for women legislators to be empowered through information and experience.

Representative Sharon Beasley-Teague represents the citizens of District 65, which includes portions of Fulton and Douglas counties. She was elected into the House of Representatives in 1992, and currently serves on the Games, Fish, & Parks, Human Relations & Aging, Legislative & Congressional Reapportionment, and Ways & Means committees.
