ATLANTA – State Representative Bruce Williamson (R-Monroe) recently represented the people of House District 111 at the American Legislative Exchange Council’s (ALEC) 38th Annual Meeting, held in New Orleans, LA, August 3-6. State legislators, policy experts, and private-sector leaders from across the country gathered to discuss the issues facing the states and our nation at this critical time.
“Georgia faces similar economic and budget issues as other states,” said Rep. Williamson. “It’s my duty as an elected official to work with fellow legislators to help generate new ideas that gives us the best choices possible when making policy decisions to help Georgia thrive.”
While at the ALEC event, Rep. Williamson brought forth suggestions to help colleagues in other states and also gathered information that will help Georgia implement policies that have already proven successful in promoting a strong economy and an efficient state government in other states.
During his attendance, Rep. Williamson had the opportunity to hear from national leaders and renowned policy experts who are committed to common sense, free-markets, and federalism. Speakers at the meeting included Louisiana Governor Bobby Jindal; Arthur Brooks, President of the American Enterprise Institute; Dr. Art Laffer, Founder and Chairman of Laffer Associates; and former Florida Governor Bob Wise, President of the Alliance for Excellent Education. Many other scholars, legislators, and business leaders also spoke at various meetings throughout the event.
ALEC is the nation’s leading nonprofit, nonpartisan organization for advancing Jeffersonian principles of free markets, limited government, federalism, and individual liberty. ALEC works through a nonpartisan public-private partnership of America’s state legislators, members of the private sector, the federal government, and general public.
Representative Bruce Williamson represents the citizens of District 111, which includes portions of Walton County. He was elected into the House of Representatives in 2010, and currently serves on the Banks and Banking, Governmental Affairs, and Budget & Fiscal Affairs Oversight committees.
